Great Conversations

Reviews

With my first daughter, we attended Heart to Heart in person. I knew what to expect and was skeptical that an online version would have the same impact. You guys did a really great job in getting the material across and making everyone feel comfortable and confident. I also liked seeing boys and Dads in the same setting. “We are all in this together.”

“I am flabbergasted by the entire experience. All the instructors presented their material in an incredibly clear, engaging, fun, and approachable way. I was paying attention to the participants, and it seemed like there were some great conversations happening at home, too. In fact, I’ve already recommended Great Conversations to my friends and co-workers with children in this age range! Your model is so unique and meets a significant need. As you know, many parents across the board are concerned about what exactly is being taught in school sex ed curriculums, yet they often feel ill-equipped to educate their children on their own. The instructors navigated many of the high-conflict topics with tact and often referred kids to talk to their adult about family values around those areas. Thank you, thank you, thank you for what you do.”

“This was great! I did the in-person one with my older daughter, and I really like the updates to the online version. It worked so well overall. I also appreciated the flexibility for the make-up classes. Thank you for offering such a fantastic program for our community – and now for an extended community around the world! The teachers are all so great.”

“We really appreciated the valuable information and the kind, straight forward, pragmatic
format.
Our daughter was very hesitant and is still quite resistant even afterward to the topics,
but at least she is now more educated and hopefully it slowly gives her more confidence to
address puberty concepts. Thanks! “

“We absolutely loved The Chat! Our 10 year old daughter, and 13 year old son attended along with mom & dad! The program was informative, entertaining, funny at times, got their
attention from Session 1 and it was easy and simple to log in and participate!
Thank
you.”

“First of all my child really enjoyed it which I think is the most important thing. As a medical
provider, i appreciated the science based curriculum. I actually think the zoom format worked
well. i know that typically this is in person, but I was able to have a lot of great conversations with my son which wouldn’t have been possible in the old format.”

“I had a great experience with the chat and am thankful for the straight forward way the
information was communicated. My 10-year-old daughter was interested and fairly
comfortable with the information provided. I feel closer to her as a result. I will absolutely
recommend this course to friends with kiddos and will take it again when my other daughter is
older.”

“The topics of discussion are hard to initiate without a forum and this chat provided that for my
daughter and I. Thank you for having fantastic speakers who were confident and
knowledgeable. T
hey shared their experiences and information presented helped me discuss
things with my child. Although I am not ready for my child to grow up but this is part of life and I thank you for making this beautiful experience.”

“It was amazing! All of the hosts would explain anything that could happen, and spoke on a very age-appropriate level. They were very engaging, inclusive, and honest. I appreciate the science-backed program and how inclusive it was.”

“Fantastic content. Loved the opportunities to share with our teen during the class. The videos
were great at showing a variety of people with a variety of experiences and input. Would highly recommend to friends.”

“I really enjoyed the virtual “the Chat” classes. I took in person Heart to Heart classes twice, the most recent 6 years ago. I love the updates of inclusive language and consent. It is wonderful how the class has evolved. Well done!”

“Thank you SO much for organizing these wonderful workshops and for bringing them beyond your local community via zoom. Although we live in Austin, TX, we were able to engage with you electronically and we loved it. Your workshops were super engaging for all of us and gave our family organized times and ways to discuss topics that when broached by her parents alone were boring and awkward! We really appreciate your time and expertise. Thank you!”

“We had such a wonderful experience. All of the educators were so personable and knowledgable. I found it informative and engaging and a great mix of the polls, private conversations with my child, videos, and live instruction. Very well done, thank you so much!”

“Initially, I was disappointed to not be in person but the chat turned out to be quite cozy for us my bedroom while munching on snacks. I think the chat is laid out nicely with good topics and the presenters appear to be trusted adults. It allowed us the opportunity to speak directly with each other about the topics too.”

“I really appreciated how the curriculum acknowledged all gender identities and all people. The topics were very thorough, but at just the right depth. I also liked how the topics were discussed very candidly and with the correct terminology. The Zoom setting was actually beneficial for our family logistically but also provided a more private/safe space for my daughter and I to discuss and connect on the topics.”

“We loved that we were not responsible for facilitating these conversations but got to be active participants with our child. We were able to bond over this experience instead of feeling uncomfortable as we were in the teaching seat and had to be an expert.”

“Loved the conversation starters. Loved that the speakers provided science-based answers to all of the questions and discussed cultural norms.”

“Some of the instructors were great…had really open minds to the issues facing kids today and the variety of genders/gender expression, sexual orientations (including pan sexual and asexual) and experiences. We really enjoyed the virtual format. I found it was easier for kids to engage anonymously with great questions. My kiddo much preferred it to having gone in person (even if we didn’t have COVID to contend with). Also, really did appreciate having more than one instructor. Lots of different voices makes a stronger program.”

“The information was presented in a conversational (aka non scary) way. Opened the door for future conversations with my pre-teen. The Chat covered some topics we discussed at home in more detail; and also covered topics that I wasn’t sure how to approach.”

“Thank you SO much for organizing these wonderful workshops and for bringing them beyond your local community via zoom. Although we live in Austin, TX, we were able to engage with you electronically and we loved it. We have a child who has always been a closed book and it’s very hard for us to have conversations about the big things. Your workshops were super engaging for all of us and gave our family organized times and ways to discuss topics that when broached by her parents alone were boring and awkward! We really appreciate your time and expertise. Thank you!”

“Really appreciated this program. It was explained in very age-appropriate terminology which was something I was not confident enough to do. My daughter also enjoyed the surveys and those were great to keep the kids engaged. Thanks very much!”

“Great way to start the difficult conversations. The last chat was a little too much information and could be simpler for an 11 year old to understand.”

“This was a great way for our pre-teen to get the information he needed in a safe space. It made it easier to have these kinds of chats that are really embarrassing for him. I felt we were able to have a great talk about everything and that he has more information than I had at his age. Thank you!”

“This afforded us some great opportunities to start discussions we wouldn’t have otherwise. Thank you!”

“This has been a family favorite since I attended it with my elder daughter 3 years back, it helped us learn together and create comfort to have to follow up conversations. I love the humor and interactive format…Looking forward to reading the book together! Thank you for this great program!”

“I was nervous about taking this class via Zoom, but it was FANTASTIC! My child felt very comfortable being at home, which was nice. Plus, this program was AMAZING! Such a great mix of interactive elements, videos, speakers… it kept us engaged, it never got boring, and it was nice to have the privacy to talk about awkward topics. It was the perfect amount of time.”

“Great, clear, factual conversations and approach to topics. Was a great way to start these conversations with my pre-teen. I noticed her starting to ask more questions of me between class so I felt like it really was the first step in future conversations. And started with a neutral (not someone we knew) person opening the conversation and introducing topics. It would have been much harder for me to start these conversations, but I feel more confident to take it from here and that we can have a more open dialogue now.”

“So good! I have done heart to heart in the past and I actually think this is a better format for the kids to not be as embarrassed. All the sessions were great. The weakest (but still great) was #4. My child was the least engaged in that session.”

“I think the program is great. I attended the in-person sessions a few years ago with my oldest child. I’m not sure which one I prefer! 5 sessions is a lot, but I think it’s helpful to have lots of smaller conversations, since so much information is covered. Thanks for making it possible to continue this program even with the restrictions that have been in place for the past few years.”

“Good overall and a beginning to future conversations. My daughter is 10 and hasn’t asked any questions before but I wanted her to have information sooner rather than later.”
