The Chat: IN-PERSON

Step #1: Start the Conversation

Some preteens like knowing what to expect before they arrive in class, others are not so sure. If looking over some of the materials before walking in the door is interesting for you or your preteen, below are some resources to get ready to have a Great Conversation.

This optional workbook serves as an engaging set of worksheets to be used before, during, or after class. Geared towards reading, writing and tactile learners, our workbooks mirror the CHAT workshops to help your family further engage in topics about puberty, sex, and other growing-up topics.

Step #2: Getting There

We recommend arriving to class with time to spare. Some of our class locations take some time to navigate from the parking lot

At Seattle Children's, FOREST Parking is recommended, including handicapped access. All of our other location directions are listed below.

Step #3: Come to Class

Your Chat In-person is two 2-hour sessions for all genders of preteens aged 10-12 with one grown-up. For extra grownups there is a fee.
Bringing water or other snacks is OK - there will not be time during the break to purchase snacks from nearby vendors.

Each session features live presentations by expert instructors in an auditorium or large classroom setting. The classes include PowerPoint graphics, and conversation prompts for families.

A short break and time to answer anonymous questions are included. Learn more about our team of instructors HERE.

HEALTH NOTE: Our classes are in hospital, school, and community settings. Please reschedule with Registration if you don’t feel well or have fever, chills, cough, fatigue, body ache, headache, sore throat.

Step #4: Keep the Conversation Going

Our workbooks contain follow-up questions for parents and preteens to tackle together between classes.

Step #5: Dive into the Book

For families attending the class, our book Will Puberty Last My Whole Life? is included in your registration fee. It will be mailed to you after the end of the month your class starts. Our books are not needed before class nor used during class. Rather they are supporting material for your family to continue your great conversations about puberty.

The Chat: VIRTUAL

Step #1: Start the Conversation

Some preteens like knowing what to expect before they arrive in class, others are not so sure. If looking over some of the materials before walking in the door is interesting for you or your preteen, below are some resources to get ready to have a Great Conversation.

Step #2: Getting the Link

You’ll receive your Zoom Link, as well as your class guidelines, two hours before the class start time.

If you have trouble connecting through Zoom, TEXT 206-659-1458 for our administrator's help troubleshooting audio/video issues.

Step #3: Download the Workbook

This optional workbook serves as an engaging set of worksheets to be used before, during, or after class. Geared towards reading, writing and tactile learners, our workbooks mirror the CHAT workshops to help your family further engage in topics about puberty, sex, and other growing-up topics.

Step #4: Come to Class

Once you arrive, you'll be placed in a waiting room before class begins. Don't worry, that's the instructor getting ready. You'll be admitted at the class start time.

All classes in The Chat are intended for a parent and preteen to attend together. Our classes are for all genders.

Although you do not need the Zoom app to access our classes, if you do choose to use it, we find that the smoothest class experience happens with an updated app. Check to see if your app needs updating by opening the app on your computer, clicking ‘zoom.us’ in the upper left-hand corner, and then, ‘Check for Updates...’ You can update the app on your phone by searching for it in the App Store, and hitting ‘Update’ if the option appears for you there. Otherwise, you can assume that your app is up-to-date.

Step #5: Keep the Conversation Going

Our workbooks contain follow-up questions for parents and preteens to tackle together between classes. Each our our classes also comes with a post-class activity for preteens on the class landing page (the link you clicked to join the class).

Step #6: Dive into the Book

For families who purchased a 5-part series, our book Will Puberty Last My Whole Life? is included in your registration fee. It will be mailed to you after the end of the month your class starts. Our books are not needed before class nor used during class. Rather they are supporting material for your family to continue your great conversations about puberty.

Families purchasing a limited selection of single workshops may buy Will Puberty Last My Whole Life? and/or This is ME – A Journal for Girls from your favorite bookseller. These books were written by Julie Metzger, RN, MN and Rob Lehman, MD, the creators of Great Conversations.
